Sailfish, Marlin Swordfish and Tarpon are the four great salt water game fish in the world. Three of the four fish live in tropical or semitropical waters. The fourth, Swordfish seems to prefer the cooler but not icy waters of the North Atlantic and Pacific. They are especially prevalent in the spring summer and fall months and tend to move further south, but not to tropical waters, as winter descends.

Marlin and Sailfish are free-roaming and occur throughout the whole world. They tend to follow the warm offshore currents and the bait fish that travel along them.

While they are different species, both Sailfish and Marlin are renown for their speed and are a real challenge for even the experienced angler.

Sailfish and Marlin are best caught by trolling using small fish like yellowtail or mackerel for bait. Chumming is also an effective technique when the fish are spotted in the area.

Tarpon are quite different. The are also widely dispersed throughout the tropical waters of the world but they mainly tend to live near shore or in bays and inlets where they can find adequate bait fish.
